Welcome To New Orleans

it was front page news
when the levees broke
and when the city was drained
so was its people’s hope
and after a few days
everyone went back to their lives
thinking it was all over
they were ignoring the cries

but cars are still up in trees
houses still flat on the ground
the streets are still empty

not a soul is around

entire communities are crushed
people still live out of bags
you think that you have it tough?
people still living in rags
still going days without food
working hard to get fed
still spending nights in the streets
katrina took their bed

but instead of giving up
right there and then
these people showed the heart
of one million men
america’s greatest city
who cares if it’s poor?
in a little bit of time
new orleans will rise once more
