Anna S. ArthurDownstairs, left door Alone Tile, dark, cold Alone Twitchings, shudders
Upstairs, first door Alone Bed, quilt, warmth Alone Yearnings, rippings
Out of warmth, step by step Downstairs, left door Together Dark, cold, yet Together
Still twitching, shuddering Setting off
Still yearning, ripping Giving the push
Sharp ragged breaths One grasping for time The other battling emotion
Dimly misting eyes One glazing over, futile fighting The other brightly lit, surrender Finally overflowing
Find each other, eyes lock Sense of understanding, consent Agreement
Breaths slowly settle Blinks begin to lengthen Harmonized
Together, Together, Together?
Alone.
