Loss

As we ascended into the sky,
I could not help but wonder why
All of the pain was suddenly gone.
I saw nothing but a glimpse of dawn.

I wondered how you got your wings,
And if there were better things,
Than a look of care in a lover’s stare,
A life without a mysterious air.

The doubt and remorse
Used a strange kind of force.
I felt myself being weighted down,
As I pondered leaving this godforsaken town.

I longed to burn bridges and to cut ties,
And waste not a second saying my goodbyes.
I wish you could’ve been there to see what I became,
Because without you, I realize, it’ll never be the same.
