Gratification

The air is cold and my stomach tense
A thousand thoughts enter my head
Clouding my mind, making no sense
My feet begin to feel like lead

Then the music starts

My body begins to move
And my feet feel lighter
I’m getting in the grove
And the stage gets brighter

Spinning, leaping, running, panting
Jumping, turning, plieeing, waiting.
Pointing, stretching, kicking, leaning
Spinning, leaping, running, panting.

My breathing gets heavy
And my heart pounds
Yet I dance nimbly
To the musical sounds

Then the music stops

The crowd goes wild and everyone cheers
My heart races with exhilaration
The beat of clapping hands is music to my ears

And my face smiles with gratification
